Guthridge Primary School has had a long tradition in the teaching and promotion of performing arts. It has become one of our "signature" programs.
Since 1987 Guthridge has been well-known for its School Production. Senior students learn the skills of script writing, costuming, backdrops, lighting, props, makeup, musical accompaniment, acting, dancing and singing.
You can see more images from previous productions in the Extra Curricular Activities Gallery.
Children in all grade levels receive weekly music sessions from our Music Specialist. Students are introduced to the musical concepts of beat, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, tone, colour, etc. by means of the skills of singing, playing, listening and creating. All classes have an upbeat, highly interactive weekly music lesson.
Our Music Program allows students to experience a variety of musical opportunities including singing, instrumental experimentation, dance, drama and preparation for various local performances (Assemblies, Sale and Yarram Eisteddfods, Production, Family Fun Night concerts, etc.).
Over the years the school's music program has been the start for many fine musicians who have moved on to play in concert and stage bands in local secondary colleges, and also to pursue careers in professional bands and orchestras.
Instrumental tuition is free (fully funded by the school) as is the hire of instruments. There is a minimum cost for the purchase of the instrumental book. Senior students (Yr 3-6) also have the opportunity to learn an instrument, such as guitar, clarinet, flute, trumpet, percussion and keyboard.
