In addition to swimming lessons for all students from Foundation to Year 6, Guthridge Primary School provides other specialist programs together with a range of enhancement and extra curricular activities.
The Student Excellence Program recognises the excellence of student achievement results across a number of years. Identified students engage in online tutorials with other identified students across Victoria as well as individual sessions supported by our High Ability Practice Leader. These students learn about high impact learning strategies such as risk-taking and metacognition as they focus on tasks that stimulate inferential thinking, problem solving and creativity, to enrich their understanding of the study of Mathematics and English.
The Student Excellence Program really sets identified students with the challenge to keep exploring their intellectual potential.
School Camps are part of the education program for Grades 3 - 6 students. They give students the opportunity to experience living away from the family, to learn the need for co-operation, to use self-reliance as well as seeing different environments and practising some skills learned at school.
Students participate in an hour long Physical Education lesson each week. They also engage in fitness activities over the course of the week. Students in Foundation to Grade 6 participate in our whole school athletics and cross country days. Students in Year 3-6 participate in our House swimming sports and winter sports. If they qualify, children then have the opportunity to participate at District, Regional and State level.
Please see the Performing Arts Page for information about the Music Program.
Students participate in a one hour Art session each week in our purpose-built Art Space. This involves working with a range of different materials and enjoying a wide variety of creative experiences. Our Art Space is a show-piece of colourful displays!
Each child participates in an intensive swimming program that is conducted over two school terms. The intensive Pre Foundation - Year 6 Swimming Program operates in our own enclosed, heated swimming pool with qualified AUSTSWIM trained instructors.
You can see some images of our indoor pool in the School Grounds & Facilities Gallery.
Students from Foundation-support class to Year 6 participate in authentic opportunities to use Auslan throughout every day with a dedicated weekly Auslan lesson 30 minutes per week. Students learn about deaf culture and basic sign language. Auslan is embraced by the school community and is the school's LOTE subject.
